This is a pretty good article about going paperless from 2008. I do a lot of these things. In addition, I use a ScanSnap S300M document scanner in tandem with Evernote for all the paper I do receive. Scan, backup, archive and then recycle.
I still get entirely too much junk mail. Sites like GreenDimes and others have helped some, but have not eliminated the credit card offers and other physical spam.
